Thinking in Systems
by Donella Meadows
A primer on systems thinking that changes how you see feedback loops, delays, and leverage points.
My Take
Meadows makes systems dynamics accessible without dumbing it down. The chapter on leverage points is particularly valuable — understanding where to intervene in a system is one of the most useful mental models I've encountered. I return to this book whenever I'm trying to understand why a system isn't behaving the way I expect.
Why It Matters
Most people think in linear cause-and-effect. Systems thinking shows you why that's wrong and what to do instead. Once you see feedback loops and delays, you can't unsee them.
Best For
Anyone who builds or manages complex systems (products, orgs, processes)
